am." - Kylie Jenner
Narrative
FBE is a YouTube
channel that is famous for its “React” videos with over 8 billion views and
over 19 million subscribers it’s one of the biggest YouTube Channels
online. The react videos film every day people’s
reactions to particular events and it is completely unscripted. In the “Teens react to Kylie Jenner” video we

through a day on her own YouTube Channel.
YouTube is the world’s growing “influencer” vlogger base, with 85% of

life opinions of the average teen in reaction to Kylies lavish lifestyle. In this episode we see her show herself doing
her makeup with her own makeup brand with reactions like: “Out here plugging your own stuff, I see you.” and “Are you as beautiful on the inside as
you are on the outside?”. Through to at
the end the teens answering questions like: how do you think teens today view Kylie? With reactions like: “She is a young adult living
her best life, what is your super power I want it” and “Its interesting because

To explain the
growing phenome that is the vlogger Marwick (2015) explains that as media has
changed over time so does celebrity (p. 333).
As media has shifted over the past two decades the traditional celebrity
has embraced social media to create direct, unmediated relationships with fans,
or at least the illusion of such (Marwick, 2015, p. 333).
In this example we see Kylie Jenner creating that illusion with her
series: “A Day in the Life”. Young people
feel a connection to her and her extravagant lifestyle. However, this can also create feelings of envy
and jealously as can be seen in some of the comments from the clip. Throughout time people have constantly compared
themselves to others to obtain a better understanding of themselves, a process
known as social comparison (Liu & Ma, 2018, p. 2). A study into social media addiction, envy and
burnout by Liu and Ma (2018) explains that the higher the level of addiction
the higher the level of envy which leads to the subsequent burnout. (171 Words)
